The Blade seeks a sports writer

The Blade is looking for an experienced sports writer to join our newsroom team.

Responsibilities include: 

• Write urgent breaking news stories for The Blade’s website and apps;
• Identify and chase impactful stories that fall between core beats and engage Toledo-area readers;
• Write high-quality, well-sourced, long-form enterprise feature stories that take readers beyond box scores;
• Assist in college and high school beat coverage when needed;
• Cover the Toledo Mud Hens minor league baseball team during baseball season;
• Work mostly from The Blade office with adjustments made for needed event coverage.

Qualifications

• 3-5 years of experience covering sports for an online and/or print publication;
• Demonstrated success writing under deadline pressure and uniquely for digital platforms;
• Experience covering a wide variety of sports, from high school to college to professional;
• Highly organized and detail-oriented with a proven ability to juggle multiple tasks;
• College degree is required.
