The Blade is looking for an experienced sports writer to join our newsroom team.
Responsibilities include:
- Write urgent breaking news stories for The Blade’s website and apps;
- Identify and chase impactful stories that fall between core beats and engage Toledo-area readers;
- Write high-quality, well-sourced, long-form enterprise feature stories that take readers beyond box scores;
- Assist in college and high school beat coverage when needed;
- Cover the Toledo Mud Hens minor league baseball team during baseball season;
- Work mostly from The Blade office with adjustments made for needed event coverage.
Qualifications
- 3-5 years of experience covering sports for an online and/or print publication;
- Demonstrated success writing under deadline pressure and uniquely for digital platforms;
- Experience covering a wide variety of sports, from high school to college to professional;
- Highly organized and detail-oriented with a proven ability to juggle multiple tasks;
- College degree is required.
