Texas Monthly seeks a videographer

Texas Monthly is seeking a full-time staff videographer to create and edit video features spanning a wide range of storytelling styles, from short-form documentary, cooking videos, hosted travelogs, and more. Projects are inclusive of the Texas Monthly and Texas Country Reporter brands, plus occasional projects for external clients through Texas Monthly Studio. This role exists within the video department of the editorial staff and reports to the director of video and events.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Pitching stories and working collaboratively with other producers, editors, and project managers
  • Shooting video and operating equipment as needed (camera, microphones, light kits, tripods, etc.)
  • Coordinating and managing filming logistics for assigned projects, including:
    • Scheduling shoots; securing releases and permits; booking travel and lodging; hiring talent or essential contract staff; directing on-camera subjects; submitting expenses
  • Managing post-production duties for assigned projects, including:
    • Logging footage, recording voice overs, editing video sequences, selecting music, mixing audio
  • Preparing exports across multiple deliverables including TexasMonthly.com, YouTube, social media, and broadcast
  • Promoting audience engagement by brainstorming video-forward strategies for social accounts
  • Upholding best practices in file/asset management, communications, and project management
  • Handling other duties related to video production and department success, as needed

Successful candidates will have experience with a range of shooting styles—from agile and on-the-go to more cinematic and highly produced—and will possess the following skills/abilities:

  • Confidence working in the field and engaging with strangers
  • Sensitivity when the subject matter as needed
  • Exceptional attention to detail

  • A collaborative approach to working with multiple stakeholders
  • Strong time management skills
  • Ability to work independently when needed

Other Requirements:

  • 5+ years video production experience, including shooting and editing
  • Audio mixing and motion graphic skills are a plus
  • Ability to travel frequently for production
