WCNC-TV in Charlotte is currently seeking a highly skilled Video Editor/Photojournalist to join our Wake-Up Charlotte news team. As a Video Editor/Photojournalist, you will play a crucial role in creating captivating and shareable content for television, social media, and mobile platforms.

This dynamic position will require a mix of in-house editing for newscasts and fieldwork, ensuring our audience receives high-quality and engaging news coverage. We are looking for individuals who possess a keen artistic eye, a deep understanding of editing and photography techniques, and a passion for storytelling.

Responsibilities:

  • Content Creation: Collaborate with the news team to generate visually appealing and compelling news stories for multiple platforms, including television, social media, and mobile.
  • Video Editing: Edit news footage, interviews, and other video content to produce polished and impactful news segments. Use the latest editing software and tools to enhance video quality and storytelling.
  • Photography: Capture high-quality video that support news stories and engage the audience. Stay up to date with the latest tools and industry standards.
  • Fieldwork: Participate in field assignments to gather news stories, conduct interviews, and capture video footage. Use live news gathering tools, such as TVU, and Dejero to ensure real-time coverage.
  • Storytelling: Craft compelling narratives that resonate with viewers, using both video and graphics as storytelling mediums. Collaborate with reporters and producers to develop story ideas.
  • Equipment Management: Ensure the proper maintenance and care of camera equipment, editing hardware, and software tools.
  • Deadline Adherence: Work efficiently to meet tight deadlines for both newscast editing and field reporting, ensuring content is delivered on time for broadcast and online publication.
  • Technical Proficiency: Stay current with the latest advancements in editing software, photography tools, and live news gathering technologies to maintain a competitive edge.
  • Team Collaboration: Collaborate closely with reporters, producers, and fellow editors to produce comprehensive news stories. Adapt to various roles within the newsroom as needed.
  • Social Media Integration: Optimize content for social media platforms, tailoring videos, and images for maximum engagement and shareability.
  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism, broadcasting, or a related field is preferred.
  • Proven experience in video editing and photography.
  • Proficiency in industry-standard editing software (e.g., Edius, Adobe Premiere Pro,).
  • Familiarity with photography equipment, techniques, and standards.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong storytelling and creative skills.
  • Knowledge of live news gathering tools like TVU is a plus.
  • Excellent time management and organizational abilities.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to adapt to a fast-paced news environment.
  • Travel: Occasionally: 10-25%
  • Work Environment Set: Outdoors: performed in various outdoor environmental conditions
  • Physical Demands Set: Light work: Involves sitting most of the time, walking, lifting, bending, standing, etc.
