S&P Global seeks a reporter, US community banks

Are you interested in advancing your career in business journalism? If so, the U.S. financials team at S&P Global Market Intelligence is seeking a hungry reporter to cover community banks, one of the most important beats in our newsroom. Community banking is core to many of our readers’ interests and a dynamic sector of the financial industry. Facing competition from both too-big-to-fail megabanks and upstart fintech, community banking has a challenging road ahead that makes for compelling storytelling opportunities. In this role, a candidate will learn the ins and outs of banking operations while hunting for scoops and churning out insightful financial analysis. We have seasoned editors who can help guide writers. We want to speak with candidates who are ready to learn and can take advantage of our training and guidance. Above all we are seeking self-starters who are not afraid to make a bunch of calls to get to the bottom of a story.

You’ll collaborate with more than 25 writers and editors focused on the financial industry, as well as analysts and data journalists throughout the newsroom. Our team covers financial institutions of all sizes. We follow storied banks as well as the financial technology companies disrupting the traditional landscape. Our reporters combine interviews with industry sources with our deep data set to produce articles that resonate with our long-established reader base. Our global newsroom consists of more than 250 reporters and editors across five continents.

Responsibilities:

  • Follow industry news
  • Compose enterprise articles on key developments
  • Cover hearings, speeches, shareholder meetings, investor conferences

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism or equivalent experience
  • Openness to editorial feedback
  • 1+ years of reporting experience
  • Command of journalistic standard methodology (AP style, libel issues, etc.)
  • Strong analytical skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of financial market & economic trend analysis
  • Experience with data journalism
