Skift seeks an an airlines reporter

Skift, the most influential media company covering the business of travel, is seeking a full-time reporter to report on and oversee the coverage of the global airlines industry.  The primary responsibility is reporting and writing daily news and enterprise stories. The position is remote anywhere in the United States, as Skift is a fully distributed remote company.

It’s company coverage; it’s trends coverage; it’s scoops and it’s profiles. Whether deciphering Delta’s post-pandemic strategy, or breaking news on layoffs at Emirates, or profiling an executive inside JetBlue Technology Ventures, this reporter will own one of the most crucial beats at Skift.

The biggest CEOs, CMOs, and senior executives in airlines depend on Skift for its insights. Airlines, as part of travel’s larger ecosystem, are an increasingly important part of that world for Skift readers and subscribers, particularly in these challenging times.

This new position is a chance for you to work with the best editorial team in ALL of travel and the best boutique media company around. This reporter will work closely with the team at our sister publication Airline Weekly newsletter, the essential read for all of aviation.

The ideal candidate will bring experience reporting and writing on business with strong contacts in the airlines sector. Along with this, you should have a good understanding of the macro trends in the business and technology worlds.

The position will report to Skift’s editor-in-chief.

Some of What You’ll Do

  • Contribute regular stories about the business of airlines, airports and other related aviation sectors.
  • Research companies for insight into operations, trends, and growth.
  • Interview leaders, operators, and experts in the industry.
  • Follow global macroeconomic trends and report on how they impact the sector.
  • Constantly think of new ways to tell stories in engaging and smart ways. Never follow the pack.
  • Communicate with the overall team about stories you’re actively working on.
  • Contribute to the Skift’s lineup of newsletters through original stories and curated posts.
  • Participate in Skift’s global forum conferences.
  • Represent Skift at travel industry events and media appearances.

The Experience You Bring

  • Experience in business reporting. B2B or business publishing experience preferred, but consumer media experience considered.
  • Demonstrated experience of covering breaking news as well as day-to-day industry coverage.
  • Extensive contacts in the airline industry is ideal.
  • Deep understanding of the macro trends in business and technology.
  • Exceptional writing and copy-editing skills.
  • Proficiency in WordPress, Photoshop, and Google Docs.
  • Proficiency in languages is a plus for our global coverage.
  • Flexibility to travel when necessary.
