RichmondBizSense.com – the business journal for Richmond, Virginia – is looking to add another reporter to our thriving newsroom.

Are you in the journalism field but are worried about the stability of traditional media companies? Come join our exciting online-only publication with a 16-year track record, a team of experienced reporters and a loyal, growing readership.

The right candidate will be able to produce local business stories on a daily deadline on some of our more seasoned and interesting beats, including startups, small businesses, nonprofits, publicly traded companies, local government,  and more.

If you love to know what makes people tick and how businesses are built and operate, this is the role for you.  You don’t need an MBA to be a business reporter, just a natural curiosity.

Basic qualifications:

– At least 1-3 years of reporting experience, primarily hard news, and the drive to work a beat on a daily deadline

– Proven ability and/or the desire to learn to dig up stories through old-fashioned source work and public documents

– Clean and crisp writing style

– Competitive drive: We want someone who relishes breaking a scoop and hates the taste of getting beat by a competitor

About us

We founded our first newsroom in Richmond in 2008 and it has been growing ever since. The Richmond metro area is a thriving region centered on the James River. A healthy, stable, diverse economy and engaged citizens makes it a great place for business reporting. We have also replicated our innovative model with a sister site in Denver, Colorado, BusinessDen.com, which is now 10 years old and growing.

Compensation

Pay based upon experience. We offer a healthcare plan with dental and vision and IRA with company match benefits. Paid vacation days + federal holidays + paid week off from Christmas-New Year’s means four weeks of time off each year.

To Apply

Please send a resume and cover letter explaining your interest in business news and why you are the best candidate for this position to Michael@richmondbizsense.com. Please also explain your reporting highlights and include 3-5 clips of your hard news writing.
