Rhode Island PBS seeks a photojournalist

We are looking for a talented and experienced photojournalist / editor to join the Rhode Island PBS Weekly team. This individual has a creative eye, can tell an intriguing story through video and can work calmly under deadline pressure. This individual must be team oriented and want to collaborate with producers and reporters to develop beautifully shot, balanced, long form, compelling stories for the weekly newsmagazine show. Must have a strong photojournalist and editing background and the ability to tell in-depth, engaging 5 – 10-minute stories. The successful candidate understands the importance of on-air, online and digital content and is prepared to light, shoot, edit and produce for all three platforms.  This is a highly creative photojournalist position focused on long form production.

What the Photojournalist Position Does:

  • Apply a creative eye and expert lighting capabilities to set-up and beautifully film on-location.
  • Incorporate a strong sense of creative storytelling and strong editing capabilities for complex, high quality stories on Adobe Premiere editing system.
  • Take direction, including filming and editing assignments from the Rhode Island PBS Weekly Senior Producer.
  • Do site surveys to ensure proper setting for location shoots.
  • Work as a team and collaborate with producers and reporters on creative concepts.
  • Operate high-end broadcast quality cameras and audio equipment and apply expert lighting on location.

Position Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Broadcasting, Communications or related field AND 8+ years’ experience in filming and editing news stories OR, any equivalent combination of experience, training and/or education approved by Human Resources.
  • Understands and follows the Code of Ethics for journalism
  • Strong news judgement and journalistic integrity
  • Must be able to problem solve and be flexible
  • Work independently toward a common goal
  • Work collaboratively in a fast paced, team-oriented environment
  • Willing/able to take direction
  • Attitude: requires adaptability, enthusiasm, initiative and a positive approach to problem solving; must enjoy working with people
  • Must be able to lift and carry 50 pounds of equipment
  • Have a valid driver’s license
  • Knowledge of state/federal broadcast rules and regulations.
  • Knowledge of broadcast production techniques.
  • Knowledge of equipment utilized in production and editing.
