Reuters seeks tech reporter in Taipei

Reuters is looking for a technology correspondent in Taipei, a critical link in the global gadget supply chain.

The Taipei correspondent must be an organized, relentless digger who can build sources within the network of firms feeding Apple, a notoriously secretive company that threatens to cut off suppliers that dare to leak details of its hotly anticipated new products. Tracking Taiwan’s electronics companies such as HTC and TSMC is central to the job, not to mention following the worldwide ambitions of Hon Hai’s unpredictable Terry Gou.

The successful candidate will also have an eye for spotting trends in the broader industry and writing about them in a succinct way. Responsibilities: Write stories with accuracy and speed and in accordance with our principles and operating standards. Gather information to break news and write stories. Build and maintain a set of contacts to break news. Build expertise and knowledge to broaden and deepen coverage. Develop and maintain good working relations with editorial staff and management.

Required Skills:
– The right candidate will have the news judgment and stamina to quickly sift through the endless stream of blogs, tweets and news reports to separate the random rumors from the chase-worthy tips, making Reuters a must-read destination for the hottest tech stories in the world.
– This person must be equally comfortable snapping breaking news and writing stand-back initiative pieces.
– Strong writing skills are essential.
– Mandarin is required.
