Reuters seeks correspondent in Vienna

Posted by Chris Roush

Reuters is looking for an enterprising journalist with strong writing skills and a passion for speed to cover a variety of corporate, financial and political stories from Vienna.

Austria is home to the leading foreign lenders in tumultuous central and eastern Europe, cutting-edge technology specialists like Voestalpine and energy group OMV, as well as Telekom Austria, which acquisitive billionaire Carlos Slim aims to build into a regional powerhouse.

Its talkative central bank governor makes Austria punch above its weight in the euro zone. And its mainstream parties face a growing challenge from a resurgent Eurosceptic right wing. OPEC headquarters across the street from the bureau and a host of international organizations including U.N. nuclear watchdog IAEA make Vienna a cosmopolitan center that routinely hosts big power talks with Iran on its controversial atomic program.

It is also a hub for regional energy supplies and trading. This is a great opportunity for an emerging reporter with strong German language skills who wants to broaden their horizons and tackle a range of stories. We need a team player with a nose for stories that lurk beneath the headlines.

The ideal candidate will be equally comfortable snapping comments from ECB policymakers and writing insightful corporate stories. This person will report to the Chief Correspondent, Vienna.

Key Required Skills
– At least 3 years of reporting experience, company news experience an advantage
– Excellent German language skills
– Fast and accurate snapping
– Solid news judgment, writing and editing skills
– Proven ability to generate innovative story ideas and turn them into wire-ready stories
– Ability to work well in a team of text and visuals journalists across the region
