Reuters seeks an energy reporter in central Europe

July 22, 2021

Posted by Chris Roush

Reuters is looking for an experienced reporter to cover energy transition policy and its impact on industry, as well as the effects of climate change throughout central Europe. The successful candidate will break news ahead of the competition and dig out market-moving exclusives and investigative stories on the political power of the coal industry, transition strategies of national utilities, M&A activity, and the region’s complex relations with Russia, its main provider of energy supplies.

He or she will have to build sources within governments with a history of opaque decision-making and corruption, formulate pitches for enterprise stories and deliver crisp copy.

Based in Warsaw, the job is an opportunity to develop richly-illustrated multimedia stories on such issues as the impact of logging in ancient forests, industrial degradation and the shrinking water supplies.

As a Central Europe Energy Correspondent at Reuters, you will:

  • Have a solid understanding of climate science and the causes of climate change
  • Be familiar with the science and technology involved in climate solutions under research
  • Work with fellow correspondents in bureaus across the region
  • Be responsible for insightful coverage of top companies including Poland’s PKN Orlen, Hungary’s MOL, and the Czech Republic’s CEZ

To be a Central Europe Energy Correspondent  at Reuters, you will likely have:

  • Have a proven ability to build sources and break stories
  • Have strong news judgment and writing skills
  • Be a self-starter and excellent team player
  • Have at least five years’ experience covering energy, industry or finance.
  • Have a knack for multimedia story-telling.
  • Outstanding written English is essential. Proficiency in Polish would be an asset
  • Be committed to Reuters’ principles of journalistic objectivity and freedom from bias.

Please note, the deadline for applications is Sunday 8th August 2021.
