Reuters Video News is seeking a versatile, multi-skilled Senior Producer for its busy Los Angeles bureau with a proven track record of leading a team and driving news and Showbiz coverage that sets Reuters apart from the competition.

The successful candidate will have a reputation for leading from the front and for producing innovative and high quality agency and online news stories. The successful candidate will have a successful record in running teams, organizing coverage of major breaking news and set piece events and take a leading role in defining coverage priorities whilst also being mindful of the budget. The LA bureau turns out content across the full range of output – Showbiz, breaking news, sports and the right candidate will demonstrate creativity, agility and flexibility in meeting these demands.

It is expected that the Senior Producer will take a leading role in coordinating coverage with colleagues in text, graphics and photos and play an active and positive role in creating multimedia content. The position requires excellent news judgment, the ability to handle several stories simultaneously and turn out top quality scripts and edits in a timely manner.

The candidate must have a proven capacity for communicating effectively across a large editorial organization with experience in a busy newsroom and also show experience in liaising with the sales side and clients. Top notch editing and technical skills are a pre-requisite and the ability to work in a team is a must. The successful candidate should demonstrate a strong familiarity with the full range of output in the North American region.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the Los Angeles RVN team with primary responsibility for all coverage – both live and edited content, with a focus on driving Showbiz/Entertainment coverage
  • Keen understanding of customer needs
  • Play active and creative role in setting the news agenda, suggesting and executing original ideas for coverage
  • Uphold Reuters editorial standards while maintaining high standards of accuracy and speed
  • Oversee the editing and scripting of news packages for agency and online
  • Willingness to work flexible hours
  • Familiarity and knowledge of social media as a newsgathering tool
  • Experience leading a team and scheduling and assigning staff as appropriate
  • Ability to work across several disciplines and in a multimedia team
  • Plan and execute coverage priorities in LA and the West Coast

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Effective leadership and communication skills
  • Excellent news judgment
  • Organizational skills, experience leading teams, and coaching & developing staff
  • Superb story-telling and video editing skills on Avid
  • Fast and accurate writer
  • An understanding of the latest digital video technologies
  • Proactive, flexible and team-oriented with well-developed interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to work under pressure and flexibility to juggle competing deadlines.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience.
  • Fluent English required, second language an asset
