Posted by Chris Roush

Reuters is looking for an experienced, ambitious journalist to help drive coverage of financial markets from Japan, the world’s third-largest economy and a critical market for global investors.

The successful candidate will cover Japan’s huge – and hugely important – stock, currency and bond markets, and work as part of an Asia-wide finance and markets breaking news team responsible for covering moves and flows of regional markets, as well as the people shaping them.

This is a fast-paced job that requires quick and creative thinking, excellent news judgement and a keen eye for a great story. We are looking for someone who will be able to go beyond the daily ups-and-downs to zoom in on what is being bought and sold, and why, teasing out stories about the broader implications behind big market moves.

The successful candidate will be able to use data to illustrate what’s happening in the markets, and the implications for the broader economy. This is a great opportunity for an ambitious reporter to break news and tell insightful, complex stories through the people and businesses involved in and impacted by financial markets.

About The Role:

As our Markets Correspondent you will:

  • Help drive our coverage of markets in Japan, a key market for our financial clients
  • Work with colleagues across the region to tell broad, Asia-wide markets stories
  • Serve as part of a roster of reporters covering international markets during Asian hours
  • Ensure we are delivering fast, comprehensive and insightful coverage that goes beyond the numbers
  • Build sources at banks, brokerages and asset managers to break news and keep our readers ahead
  • Work closely with colleagues on the Japanese language service

About You:

To be our Markets Correspondent, you will likely have:

  • Excellent knowledge of financial markets and the drive to always learn more
  • Strong Japanese language skills and excellent writing in English
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and prioritize workflow
  • Experience building sources, using data to tell stories and using social media for newsgathering and monitoring
  • A desire to look for innovative and interesting ways to tell market stories to a broad audience
