The San Francisco Recorder is seeking a reporter to cover the leading law firms in San Francisco and Silicon Valley with a focus on attorneys who are integral to the region’s innovation economy.

We write about the competitive legal industry and the lawyers who take tech companies public, put together headline-grabbing deals, and work with venture capitalists to get crucial funding for startups.

WHAT YOU’LL DO:

  • Produce breaking news stories under deadline pressure, ensuring they are clear and comprehensive
  • Craft smart feature stories about the evolving business strategies of law firms
  • Develop relationships with the appropriate contacts and firms in the market
  • Conduct in-person and telephone interviews with sources
  • Must have the ability to juggle a stream of daily stories on tight deadlines with long-term features, while also scoring scoops on the beat

ABOUT YOU:

  • Must be able to write clearly, engagingly and authoritatively—and on a deadline
  • Must be able to establish and nurture relationships with key contacts
  • Must possess strong reporting and writing skills
  • Must be versatile and work as a team player
  • Two years experience in a daily news environment is preferred. Motivated candidates with strong internship experience in business/legal reporting will be considered.

Please email vblum@alm.com a cover letter detailing your interest, a resume and three clips that best display your ability to break news, write engaging features, and turn smart analysis.
