Quartz seeks an editor to lead its expansion into subscriptions, taking an entrepreneurial approach to defining our journalism in this area and working with several reporters focused on it.
The mandate is to identify creative and compelling editorial approaches for paying readers. We have theses about the opportunities in line with Quartz’s global business journalism, but are looking for this editor to take an experimental approach to defining this area of our business and of our newsroom. This is a mini-startup effort within a thriving global news organization. We expect it to become the fastest-growing part of our business.
We’re looking for someone who’s highly energized by the challenge of figuring this out, who understands how reader analytics can support this task, and who’s excited by the possibility of working very closely with Quartz’s global newsroom and world-class product team.
We’d look to you to lead a small team of journalists writing for a subscriber readership, working to pursue topics and formats that attract and help retain paying users. We’re looking for someone with a deep knowledge of business news and professional editing and reporting experience. This editor needs to have a facility with data, an enthusiasm for presenting information in creative, nontraditional formats, an entrepreneurial approach to their work, and the ability to convey curiosity and humor in their writing. Experience outside the United States and languages other than English are a plus.
