Protocol seeks news writers

October 8, 2021

Posted by Chris Roush

Protocol is seeking journalists who can quickly, accurately and smartly translate the most important stories happening in the world for our audience.

This is the fastest-paced job in the Protocol newsroom, in which you’ll have your finger on the pulse of everything happening in the tech world. You’ll write multiple stories a day, on a variety of topics and in a variety of formats. What’s the one thing the smartest people in tech need to know from the latest Congressional hearing? What’s that new startup everyone’s suddenly talking about on Twitter? What did Elon Musk do this time? You’ll get to be in the middle of it all, and help our audience do the same.

What you’ll need:

This is a perfect role for someone with deep interest in tech but who is relatively new to journalism. If you come with the energy and interest to move at the pace of breaking news, we’ll work with you to sharpen your writing, hone your news-finding skills, become a headline whiz, and understand how to speak directly to the brightest minds in tech. And you’ll get a crash course on practically everything you could ever want to know about the tech industry.

The strongest candidates will be able to write fast, switch gears quickly, and identify important things happening — and why they matter — in an instant. You’ll be able to work with the rest of our newsroom to find opportunities to tell bigger stories. And you’ll always find the angle, the quote, the data or the backstory that nobody else is talking about but everyone needs to know.

Location: We prefer candidates in the San Francisco, New York and Washington, D.C., areas.

Apply: To apply, send a cover letter and resume, with News Writer in the subject line, to jobs@protocol.com
