POLITICO is seeking a talented editor to lead our coverage of energy and climate policy and politics in Brussels.
In Brussels and across Europe, governments are trying to determine how best to prepare for a warming word. The endeavor is fraught — politicians are questioning core climate policies, economic woes have pulled focus elsewhere, and budget constraints are making decisions harder. Simultaneously, Europe must determine how to power society for decades to come. Does it buy energy from allies, or look back to Russia? How can it build renewable energy locally? Should it expand nuclear power?
POLITICO is seeking an editor to drive daily news and feature reporting on these issues, marrying policy expertise with political intrigue. The editor will be responsible for managing a team of expert journalist and producing scoopy coverage for an audience of insiders for POLITICO Pro, our subscription news service, as well as for POLITICO’s homepage.
The role is a busy job running one of POLITICO’s flagship subscription products. Ideal candidates will have sharp, hands-on editing skills, a passion for digital journalism, proven leadership skills and an interest in the subject matter. This editor will work closely with the editorial leadership team to grow our coverage.
The role would suit an experienced journalist who enjoys setting the agenda and has the confidence to collaborate comfortably with reporting teams in Paris, London, Berlin, Washington and elsewhere.
What You’ll Do
- Set the direction for POLITICO’s energy & climate coverage in Brussels and drive the daily news report
- Manage and edit a team of energy and climate reporters working on both subscription and free-to-read products
- Generate distinctive and innovative ways to tell stories
- Edit a must-read daily newsletter that shapes the agenda in Brussels
- Feed into discussions about how to grow POLITICO’s audience, reach and impact.
What You’ll Need
- Strong track record of shaping must-read coverage, sharp editing and excellent news judgment
- Demonstrable interest in EU policy in energy and climate
- Written and verbal fluency in English
- Strong attention to detail and confidence in digging into in-depth policy coverage
- Comfortable working at speed and developing longer-term projects
- Confidence in representing POLITICO at live events or on broadcast
