Piedmont Media, a nonprofit news organization in Northern Virginia, is seeking a deputy editor.
The deputy editor reports to the managing editor and will focus on Fauquier County, a popular retreat located in the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains known for rolling hills, horse farms and wineries. A key community challenge is balancing rapid industrial growth in the region driven by Internet-connected industries against a community desire to conserve the natural landscape and agricultural traditions. Other community needs include addressing rural poverty, educational quality and affordable housing.
The deputy editor will work closely with the managing editor to support all editorial team functions including editing, assigning and supervising reporters, managing copy flow and story budgets, and writing occasional quick-turnaround stories. The deputy editor may also develop a beat built around education coverage. This is a good opportunity for a talented journalist who aspires to take a step toward bigger leadership roles. About the role:
Salary. This is full-time position and pay will depend on experience. The target salary range for this role is $50,000 to $70,000 per year.
