The Times-Picayune seeks a deputy metro editor/reporter

The Times-Picayune | NOLA.com, part of the largest news organization in Louisiana, is on the lookout for a dynamic and versatile journalist to join our team in a hybrid role as nights/weekend editor and reporter. With a rich history and a commitment to delivering top-notch journalism, we are at the forefront of covering the stories that matter most to New Orleans.

Overview:

We are seeking a sharp journalist with a passion for reporting and writing to work as both an editor and reporter in our newsroom. This unique opportunity allows you to work as a night and weekend editor, directing breaking news coverage, editing copy, and managing reporters, while also reporting and writing three days a week. This is an ideal position for experienced reporters looking to try their hand at editing or veteran editors eager to get back into writing.

Responsibilities:

  • Work a minimum of two night or weekend shifts weekly, directing breaking news coverage, editing copy, and managing reporters.
  • Report and write three days a week, focusing on general assignments or a mutually agreed-upon beat area based on your interest and experience.
  • Take on special reporting projects or editing initiatives.
  • Use varied story forms and digital skills to help the company grow its audience on all platforms.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in a newsroom or online publication.
  • Proficiency in using digital tools and modern storytelling approaches to engage and grow audiences.
  • Strong editorial judgment and leadership skills.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment, managing multiple responsibilities.
