Pensions & Investments seeks a data editor

Pensions & Investments is seeking a dynamic, self-starting editor who knows how to use visuals to tell compelling stories.

The data editor is an expert in data analysis and visualization who understands how to tell stories with data. This editor also provides the editorial staff with research to be leveraged as content in stories and art to accompany stories, or tell stories graphically, in print and online. In addition to identifying relevant third-party research and sources, the data editor also provides original content — typically charts and interactive digital graphics — to be used for storytelling. Because of the data editor’s depth and breadth of work with data (especially through, but not limited to, the Bloomberg terminal and the P&I Research Center), he/she also comes up with story ideas, or data that they develop and present themselves or that they work with editors and/or reporters to develop into content for P&I’s audience.

The data editor serves as a resource for the entire editorial staff – the art director, online editor, reporters and all other editors.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, developing graphics for P&I print, graphics for PIonline.com, leveraging the Bloomberg terminal and other data sources.

Responsibilities:

Print and online stories: Put together data for reporters; improve existing stories through charts/tables/data; provide relevant data to editors; and help editors and reporters spot trends in data (internal and external;) work with editors and online team to present that data in visually interesting ways in print and on pioline.com.

Page 3 data story: Generate idea for, report and craft presentation of this analytical, thought-provoking view of an element of the capital markets and institutional investing through a unique mix of prose, data and art. This usually involves 1-2 days of research. It is essential the data editor has the market pulse and is up-to-date on the latest trends in the institutional investor community.

Chart of the day online and standing charts for print:

A pithy, analytical look at various market and institutional investing topics, including at least one bi-weekly focus on defined contribution plans and one on ESG investing.

Leveraging Bloomberg terminal: Help reporters and editors find information such as lawsuits, conference calls, annual reports, and quarterly earnings announcement dates.

Also: Various other editorial duties including attending editorial meetings, participating in source meetings, attending conferences and managing the presentation online of market information and data via interactive graphics/data visualizations.
