Screen Shot 2016-07-07 at 9.57.29 PMThe Evening Sun, a state-of-the-art Gannett newsroom in Hanover, Pa., is looking for an experienced, innovative journalist to provide top-notch coverage of business and work in York and Adams counties.

The right candidate will report and write for a digitally focused audience. You must be a self-starter and critical thinker — someone who juggles multiple tasks in multiple environments. You will always look for the next best ideas in digital journalism and you will never be afraid to fail.

You will work closely with journalists at our sister newsrooms in York, Chambersburg and Lebanon. At times, you will contribute to our regional sports and entertainment websites, GameTimePA.com and FlipSidePA.com, and our national partner, USA Today.

The daily responsibilities include:

  • Writing and reporting on business and work/life trends, with an emphasis on health/health care and real estate. This also includes a sub-beat on aging well.
  • Routinely developing and pitching watchdog and investigative pieces. This work is revelatory, relies on original reporting and documentation and is likely to spark change in the community.
  • Shooting and editing video, and photos as warranted, and using different tools (StoryMap, Adobe Spark, etc.) to enhance stories.
  • Covering breaking and crime news, as assigned.
  • Growing audience and influence on mobile, desktop and social media and using metrics to guide coverage decisions.
  • Works Sunday-Thursday. Hours are flexible depending on coverage needs.

Interested applicants should send a cover letter, resume, three writing samples and links to digital efforts to News Director Lyzz Jones atejones@eveningsun.com.
