The New York Times Audio team is hiring a producer for a new tech podcast.

You should also bring an enthusiasm for the kind of startup environment that comes with developing a new show, and a spirit of collaboration (you’ll be working with the hosts closely in the studio, with editors and with the wider Times newsroom).

Ultimately, the best candidate is someone who brings curiosity to what’s happening in tech and has bold ideas about creating a compelling listen.

  • Participate in episode tapings, including helping direct hosts and guests, logging conversations and identifying potential retracks.
  • Create post-production plans for episodes, alongside senior producer and editors.
  • Build clean drafts of episodes, often on tight deadlines.
  • Receive and incorporate edits with grace and speed.
  • Work with engineer to finalize technical aspects of the show.

Skills and Experience

  • 3-4 years experience in audio production.
  • Strong interest in technology and the internet.
  • Experience in generating and presenting pitches on deadline.
  • Experience scripting interviews for audio.
  • Expertise in audio editing, ideally using Pro Tools.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, deadlines, news judgment and time-management.
  • Experience working with hosts.
  • An independent work ethic combined with a love for and patience with the collaborative process.
  • Ability to incorporate notes from editor and take feedback on drafts and process.
  • Experience in a fast-paced news environment.
  • Use editorial judgment reflective of Times mission and principles.
