The Miami Herald seeks an editorial board member who can craft must-read editorials and columns, hold local institutions to account with fresh reporting, and help lead a constructive conversation in the community.
The successful candidate will be a digital journalist who can report and write powerful editorials and columns about local and regional issues and who will serve on the editorial board with the editorial page editor and executive editorial leadership in directing the voice of the Miami Herald.
In this role, you will report and write high-impact editorials that reflect the views of the Herald editorial board, cover breaking news and focus on accountability journalism and covering underserved communities.
The person in this role will embrace a digital-first approach that requires quick, thoughtful writing and an eagerness to try new things. The successful candidate will be a team player with a demonstrated ability to build sources.
The editorial writer will help Herald readers and would-be readers understand the contribution local journalism can make to the health of a community.
REQUIREMENTS:
- At least 3-5 years of reporting experience, preferably on local issues and/or government
- Strong writing skills, excellent news judgment and a demonstrated ability to “see the story” that is going to matter to readers
- A zeal for understanding and using readership data to inform the editorial process
- An interest in telling stories using a variety of media and enthusiasm for learning new skills and technologies
- Comfort with a job that will be demanding, fast-paced and constantly evolving
- Strong journalism ethics and an understanding of our sourcing and attribution guidelines
