The Times-Tribune in Scranton, Pa., has an opening for a features reporter who can find and tell interesting stories across multiple platforms. We’re looking for a creative and energetic self-starter capable of uncovering interesting stories on a broad range of topics in Northeast Pennsylvania. As features reporter you will connect with the community to highlight aspects of life that make this region unique.
The position is remote but must be local to Scranton, PA.
What you will do:
- Report on community news with a focus on people, arts, culture, tourism, events, lifestyles, food, trends and more
- Assist as needed with major event previews
- Generate and pitch ideas daily/weekly/long term for original stories and features
- Attend/collaborate in story planning and special section meetings as requested
- Social media audience engagement on multiple platforms
- Regular evaluation of digital audience metrics tools
What you will bring:
- Bachelor’s degree in Journalism or related field
- Be digitally focused maximizing audience engagement through our website
- The ability to develop sources through a variety of different means
- Possess excellent communication skills, show initiative and exercise good news judgment
- The ability and willingness to change gears based on a variety of factors, including audience demand
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
