“Marketplace” seeks a digital reporter

December 15, 2018

When’s the last time you thought about:

Interest rates

401(k)s

To rent or to buy

Student loans

Finding the right credit card

Chances are pretty recently, just like the rest of us. Financial decisions underpin pretty much every move we make in life yet we’re often uncomfortable talking about them even with our closest friends and family. That’s why we’re hiring a digital reporter who’s ready to transform how we tell stories about our money and our lives. This role is integral to the Marketplace mission: decoding the economy for all of us.

So, what are we looking for? You: curious and imaginative, with a knack for finding unexpected angles on personal finance news. You’re tenacious and welcome the challenge of in-depth reporting projects, driven by audience engagement, data and traditional journalism. You want other news outlets to quote your original work, not figure out how to advance a story reported elsewhere.

You’re keen to explore storytelling across platforms, working primarily with digital, but offering stories and personal finance expertise to the suite of Marketplace products. You care about serving our existing Marketplace audience and reaching those not yet familiar with us.

Us: Marketplace is the most widely heard business show in the country – on radio or TV – heard by more than 20 million people on radio and on demand. We’re an innovative team in the middle of an exciting transition from a traditional radio shop to an ambitious multi-platform organization. We’re creative, think a little differently and don’t take ourselves too seriously. That said, we understand the critical importance of people understanding how the economy shapes the world around us.
