The Lincoln Journal Star is looking for a versatile business reporter who can cover the thriving economy in Lincoln, Nebraska.
Lincoln, with a population of about 300,000, is Nebraska’s capital city and home to the state’s flagship university, which is a member of the Big Ten.
The city’s economy is very diverse, with a mix of finance, insurance, manufacturing and tech companies. Lincoln isn’t home to any members of the Fortune 500, but we have plenty of nationally known companies, including Nelnet, Hudl, Ameritas and Duncan Aviation.
We are looking for someone who can parse an earnings report one day and write a feature about the latest new restaurant or retail store the next, all while producing enterprise stories for our standalone Sunday business section. We also want someone who can work across all of our digital platforms and navigate social media. The job will include taking occasional photos and videos.
While this reporter’s primary beat will be business coverage, the right candidate will need to be flexible and confident enough to take on general assignment duties as needed.
Experience covering a daily business beat is a plus, but we’re willing to consider someone who is a quick study. We’d prefer candidates with at least a year or two of experience but will consider recent graduates.
