Are you a reporter who is good at multi-tasking and excels under deadline pressure? Do you enjoy both reporting on breaking news and taking a deeper dive for the bigger picture stories? If you are interested in covering businesses, development and economic opportunity from a variety of angles, then the Lansing State Journal is looking for you.

The Lansing region – nestled in the middle of Michigan, is home to major international corporations and a growing number of smaller businesses including our downtown areas. Our business reporter must be highly motivated, with a proven ability to report compelling stories that resonate with diverse audiences.

Desired skills: Strong people skills, daily journalism experience, knowledge of how to access public records and digital production skills – including photo, video and social media.

Qualifications: Successful candidates must be able to embrace the digital (online) focus of our modern media company. Also required is experience with collaborating in a cross-functional environment, a four-year college degree in journalism and the ability to meet deadlines. Some evening and weekend work will be required.

How to apply: Submit a single document file that includes 1) a cover letter that conveys how you would approach a position like this; 2) your resume in one or two pages; and 3) a link to three to five examples of your best work that demonstrates relevant experience. Please note: Applications submitted in a single PDF document will receive highest consideration.
