Kiplinger seeks a tax editor

About the job:

We’re seeking an enthusiastic and knowledgeable tax writer and editor to help deliver engaging, actionable guidance to our diverse and growing audience.

This is a digital-first editorial position, so you’ll spend most of your time writing, editing, and producing tax content for Kiplinger.com, which could be in the form of stories, slideshows or galleries, tools, or other innovative offerings. As part of a larger team of editors serving multiple platforms, you may also contribute to The Kiplinger Tax LetterKiplinger’s Retirement Report, and Kiplinger’s Personal Finance magazine. Many of our editors appear as guests on Kiplinger’s Your Money’s Worth podcast, too.

Qualified candidates should have a strong general understanding of federal and/or state tax laws and tax-planning, knowledge of tax-filing requirements and strategies, strong organizational and editing skills, and the ability to meet daily deadlines. You must also be able to effectively pass along your knowledge in writing to a wide variety of readers.

Requirements

What do I need to succeed?

  • Experience in an editorial environment, ideally working across both print and digital properties.
  • The ability to understand and analyze federal and/or state tax laws and guidance, including legislation, and to anticipate and spot trends.
  • Ability to write with clarity about complex tax matters, and to distill complicated issues to their essence.
  • Uncompromising commitment to quality, timeliness, and accuracy.
  • Comfortable with learning and using unique writing styles that can vary with publication or audience.
  • Open to working in podcasts, videos, webinars, and other audio/visual media is a plus.
  • Understanding and embrace of social media and other evolving digital platforms is a plus.
  • JD or CPA preferred, but candidates with relevant experience covering tax issues will also be considered. Bachelor’s degree is required.
