The Kiplinger Washington Editors Inc., seeks an experienced digital journalist to write and produce actionable personal-finance guidance for Kiplinger.com and its related properties.
The ideal candidate will possess a creative spirit capable of shaping new content ideas and breathing new life into recurring topics. Fast-paced, this role demands hitting daily deadlines and requires a willingness to collaborate across teams and to embrace new tools and processes. Candidates should demonstrate experience translating complex subject matter into engaging, plain-English guidance, as well as the ability to meet daily deadlines. Essential Functions:
* Develop and pitch new story ideas for Kiplinger.com and related properties
* Report and write assigned stories, developing a network of trusted sources and learning to craft content that serves existing audiences and attracts new ones
* Take ownership of an established portfolio of popular content requiring frequent curation, with an eye toward maintaining and improving search rankings
* Produce email newsletters and new content — including a variety of pieces crafted by colleagues from Kiplinger’s print properties — in our content management system (CMS)
* Contribute to Kiplinger’s print properties, podcast(s), and other multimedia initiatives
Desired Experience and Skill Sets:
* Minimum 3-5 years of experience in a fast-paced digital editorial environment, ideally working in collaboration with print properties as well
* Ability to navigate vast content management systems and make the most of their functionality to enhance individual pieces of content
* Keen understanding of and appreciation for the details of core personal-finance topics such as credit and debt, home ownership, insurance, budgeting, college financing, careers, retirement, taxes, and more
* Ability to write with clarity about complex personal-finance topics and to distill complicated issues to their essence
* Unflinching nature in the face of daily deadlines and urgent updates
* Comfortable using different writing styles that can vary with publication
* A familiarity with SEO best practices and analytics-driven content strategy
* A passion for engaging with audiences on and sharing content across social media
* A commitment to quality, timeliness, and accuracy
