Call for Pitches Fall 2022: The Rest Issue. Jewish Currents invites pitches for our Fall 2022 themed issue, which will focus on rest.
Deadline: 30 April 2022
ABOUT THE COMPANY
Jewish Currents is a progressive publication of politics, arts and culture. It is committed to the rich tradition of thought, activism, and culture of the Jewish left.
ABOUT THE ROLE
We are looking for reported features and essays on subjects including labor and anti-work politics: debt jubilees and other interruptions of the political status quo; mutual aid: attempts to accommodate rest within the work of social reproduction: illness, disability, and the care of the sick: sleep and dreams as a place of possibility: ecological questions around regeneration and degrowth: Jewish frameworks for collective rest including shmita and Shabbat: and more. Pitches grounded in the politics and questions of the Jewish left are welcome, as are stories concerned with broader left frameworks of political thought and struggle.
We encourage creative pathways to the theme of rest, including proposals for book reviews, artist profiles, and other criticism. (Note that we rarely accept pitches for reviews of books, films, plays, or exhibits older than nine months.) We will also review full drafts of creative nonfiction, fiction, poetry, visual art, and comics. If you are a younger activist and you, like to interview an older activist whose work relates to the issue theme for our “Office Hours” column, please pitch us, Please note that we rarely publish op-eds or human interest features.
