Iowa paper seeks business reporter

The Sioux City Journal, an award-winning daily newspaper covering northwest Iowa, northeast Nebraska and southeast South Dakota, and a Lee Enterprises publication, has an immediate opening for a business writer.

We’re looking for an experienced, self-motivated reporter who can write business related news and features for our A section, our Sunday business section and Siouxland Business Journal, our award-winning monthly niche publication.

The successful candidate must demonstrate an ability to lend perspective to local, state and national business news events and communicate and connect with readers on a broad range of topics.

Our community is home to a large manufacturing base, some of the world’s richest agriculture land. a growing retail sector and booming housing market, with more economic development on the way.

A journalism, communications or English degree is required, as is experience as a newspaper or business publication reporter.

Chris Roush was the dean of the School of Communications at Quinnipiac University in Hamden, Connecticut. He was previously Walter E. Hussman Sr. Distinguished Professor in business journalism at UNC-Chapel Hill. He is a former business journalist for Bloomberg News, Businessweek, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, The Tampa Tribune and the Sarasota Herald-Tribune. He is the author of the leading business reporting textbook "Show me the Money: Writing Business and Economics Stories for Mass Communication" and "Thinking Things Over," a biography of former Wall Street Journal editor Vermont Royster.
