Insider Inc is hiring a tech companies editor to oversee our Big Tech enterprise reporting team. The mission of this role is two-fold:
- To strengthen our reporting so Insider’s coverage of Amazon, Alphabet, Facebook and Apple — as well as rising gig companies like Uber and Airbnb — is unmatched.
- To expand the current team significantly.
This person must be able to motivate a team of reporters with sharp story assignments, edits and coaching. They need to be enthusiastic and strategic about both advancing and owning major Big Tech stories, with the reporting chops to roll up their sleeves as needed.
They also need to have a strong vision for the team they are building and be able to both recruit and build up top talent.
The tech companies editor will bring great communication and listening skills. This person is flexible and able to adapt quickly in a fast-paced newsroom. They are a team player who is excited about working in an inclusive environment and getting better every day.
The ideal candidate will also:
- Be a compelling recruiter, aiming to hire 5-10 star journalists during their first year.
- Value diversity, equity, and inclusion in hiring, story assignments, and sourcing.
- Be well-versed in beat reporting and able to coach reporters on breaking into major companies.
- Direct the team to generate consistent original reporting that other publications need to chase and executives need to read.
- Connect dots and create lots of impact that ripples throughout Silicon Valley and gets people talking.
- Be a team player who actively collaborates with Insider’s other tech reporting teams to elevate all our tech coverage.
- Crack the major platforms and tech companies like Facebook, Apple, Airbnb and Uber.

Insider Inc. employees are working remotely until July 2021. When the work from home period is over, this position will be based out of either our NYC headquarters or our SF office.
