Insider is looking for a superstar reporter to help build coverage for our new legal team.
You’ll be responsible for breaking news and digging deep into the biggest stories in the legal profession, Big Law, the US court system, and more. The reporter should have a proven track record of breaking news, as well as impeccable news judgement to know what stories to prioritize.
Insider’s legal desk covers the top stories in the legal industry, along with the many ways lawyers and the law impact business and society. Our goal is to straddle the world of the legal profession and the interests of the broader reading public, finding stories about lawyers and the law that have a bigger takeaway for non-lawyers. We’re also on the lookout for stories that shine a light on the many ways lawyers aid and abet garden variety corruption, or the ways that lawyers impact everyday life.
You’ll work with our legal editor, a small team of legal reporters, and other reporters across verticals. We often work with other teams to cover legal angles of every sector that Insider covers.
This role will offer an experienced legal reporter the chance to guide innovative coverage of legal news, and the freedom to go beyond headlines to dig into the personalities, relationships, and backstory behind Big Law firms and lawsuits. The reporter should be an artful storyteller who knows how to turn a tip or big idea into a must-read for a subscription audience. This person should be well-versed in the law and the legal industry and should have a wide network of sources.
This will be a high-profile role in a newsroom that values creativity, accountability, and diversity of ideas and opinions.
