This is IBJ’s best-read beat and one that generates among the highest number of subscription conversions. This reporter is also the author of a weekly email newsletter that showcases coverage, promotes the beat reporter and generates tips and ideas.
All IBJ reporters write breaking news as well as enterprise stories that help shape the conversation about business in the region. We are looking for a reporter who can develop strong sources to scoop our competition.
IBJ Media is an award-winning, locally owned news organization that is growing. We interpret business broadly and have a newsroom of 20 reporters, editors and artists who cover technology, real estate, law, banking, manufacturing, philanthropy, health care, government and politics across three brands: IBJ, Inside INdiana Business and The Indiana Lawyer.
While this reporter will write primarily for IBJ, the stories are likely to appear across our sites, publications and newsletters.
IBJ publishes a weekly printed paper and produce significant daily coverage at IBJ.com that is distributed through more than a dozen email newsletters (two of them sent daily, plus a number of specialty weekly newsletters).
Job Requirements
IBJ offers a chance to work in an affordable metro area with a population of more than 2 million people but in a smaller newsroom with plenty of opportunity to make a big impact.
In the Indianapolis area, you will find professional sports, world class museums and performance venues, and neighborhoods filled with great restaurants, bike trails and parks.
The north suburban reporter should live in or near Hamilton or Boone counties— which includes the vibrant cities of Carmel, Zionsville, Fishers, Noblesville and Westfield — and spend significant reporting time in those communities.
But the reporter also spends time in our main office in Indianapolis, which is located on the city’s historic Monument Circle—the literal and figurative heart of Indianapolis and just blocks from stadiums, the Statehouse, the Indianapolis City Market and much more.
If you’re a reporter who can uncover and write compelling stories, send a resume, cover letter and examples of breaking news stories and enterprise to Editor Lesley Weidenbener at lweidenbener@ibj.com and Managing Editor Samm Quinn at squinn@ibj.com.
