HousingWire, the most influential source of news and information for the U.S. mortgage and housing markets, is looking for a mortgage reporter to join our growing B2B newsroom.
The successful candidate will be able to consistently produce original stories that reveal how the mortgage industry works, what makes it tick, and the characters behind it all. The beat would encompass the mortgage, title and escrow industries.
The successful candidate will cover big retail banks, independent mortgage banks, nonbanks, wholesale lenders, fintech companies, title insurance companies and more. We’re looking for a mix of breaking news coverage, analysis and longform features.
Our newsroom of award-winning reporters and editors prides itself on revealing discriminatory and predatory business practices in the housing and mortgage industries.
Prior experience covering a business beat is a major plus but not a requirement. The ideal candidate knows how to read a company balance sheet, can write about complex subjects in an engaging way, writes clean copy, is collaborative and naturally curious.
The successful candidate is skilled at building and managing relationships with sources in order to produce stories that go beyond a press release. Critical thinking, patience and persistence are key.
Research skills, an interest in investigative methods, experience filing public records requests and second languages are all a plus.
This position is remote – the candidate does not have to be in New York City or Dallas, where we are headquartered. Salary is competitive, we also offer a 401K match, full health benefits, and very generous PTO.
Development is a key component of our larger company strategy – we’re constantly thinking about how to advance talented reporters and editors.
Built on a foundation of independent and original journalism, HousingWire reaches over 90,000 newsletter subscribers daily and over 1 million unique visitors each month. HousingWire is part of HW Media, which also owns and operates FinLedger, Reverse Mortgage Daily and Real Trends.
