Hearst Connecticut Media Group seeks biz editor

Hearst Connecticut Media Group is looking for an enterprising, audience-focused and collaborative business editor to lead HCMG’s expanding business coverage at a time when it is growing digital subscriptions.

The company’s team of reporters covers all aspects of local business, including company news, economics, retail, real estate, utilities, jobs and consumer issues, with a sharp focus on how these areas affect the lives of its audience.

DUTIES:

  • Works collaboratively with other editors, reporters, photographers and audience team members to tell impactful stories across platforms that engage and retain local subscribers and other readers
  • Works with reporters to break news online and conceives and supervises the production of in-depth enterprise and investigative pieces
  • Demonstrates a comfort level with analyzing and interpreting metrics and uses them to inform coverage decisions in real-time and the long-term
  • Works with staff to effectively use social media and video to tell stories

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Experience editing at a newspaper, news website or magazine
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in journalism, English, communications or related field preferred
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented with a proven ability to effectively juggle multiple tasks
  • Valid driver’s license and a working vehicle are required for this position
  • Ability to speak a second language like Spanish a plus
