We are looking for an experienced Senior Editor to report to our Executive Editor and collaborate closely with other members the team. This editorial team is charged with adding to Yahoo Finance’s daily market-news coverage multi-format stories exploring the ideas, trends and influences shaping longer-term trends in the economy and financial markets. Some may break on the day, some will lead to longer-form video programming. In addition, this team shapes the agenda and editorial direction for Yahoo Finance’s live events.
This editor will be a key connector for this unit with the text news, video and distribution teams that along with this team comprise Yahoo Finance’s New York-based news operation. The editor in this role will be part of a leadership team seeking to develop reporters who routinely deliver sharp, analytical stories to serve our investing-focused audience.
Responsibilities:
- Report directly to Yahoo Finance’s Executive Editor.
- Work closely with the Executive Editor to coordinate coverage around tentpole events and conferences.
- Manage the workflow and edit the output of a team of reporters developing stories and video reporting drawing on market insights, interviews with leading executives and investment managers and longer-lead features on companies and industries that are shaping the economy.
- Develop and edit sharp, analytical stories with a strong voice.
- Communicate story ideas across the newsroom and video teams to coordinate coverage and help maximize the overall effectiveness of a relatively small but very ambitious news team.
- Help leverage data and research to improve the coverage of individual reporters.
- Write original content as needed.
Required Qualifications:
- Location Preference: New York Metro Area
- At least 5 years experience working as an editor at a media organization.
- People management experience.
- Comprehensive understanding of editorial best practices and style guides.
- Strong framing and headline writing skills.
- Strong communication skills.
- Strong copy editing skills.
- Strong news judgment and an ability to make real-time decisions.
- Track record of success in a fast-paced newsroom.
- A passion for reading and distributing financial news.
- Strong understanding of corporate financial statements.
Preferred Qualifications:
- B.A. preferred or equivalent job experience.
- Editorial SEO knowledge is a plus.
- Editorial experience in commentary/analysis story writing.
- Experience in supporting live conferences a plus.
- Experience in a multimedia news environment a plus.
