WSJ seeks a senior video correspondent

The Wall Street Journal is looking for a Senior Video Correspondent to join its team in New York.

Candidates will need an extensive professional background in video journalism that includes exceptional reporting skills, source development, script writing and production management. You should have ample field reporting experience and be able to identify storylines, source subjects, report, shoot and edit video. This role will require demonstrable on-camera experience with and without on-the-ground production support.

The video department is looking for a journalist with the highest of news standards and creativity to produce premium, high-impact video both from the ground and in the studio. In this position, you will be deployed into the field to cover timely stories with rich reporting that is both revelatory and newsmaking. You will work on short, medium and long-term reporting projects, and therefore should have experience managing a healthy pipeline of continuous video work.

You will be responsible for pitching, researching, pre-production, booking, shooting and editing your videos as part of this role. You will also manage other producers or shooters who may accompany you in the field.

To apply, please submit your résumé, a cover letter clearly outlining how your skills and experience meet or exceed the key candidate requirements, and links to five videos that represent the type of work described.

Candidates who do not submit cover letters will not be considered.

You will:

  • Autonomously pitch, develop, research, report and script for a variety of formats, lengths, structures and stories to be produced for wsj.com and the WSJ YouTube channel.
  • Manage field production, including other producers who are tapped to support your work on the ground. This includes staff and freelancers.
  • Act as a lead producer to manage multiple projects in various stages of production, on tight deadlines, both in the field and in house.
  • Appear on camera when necessary for the story. You will often serve as the face of a piece when reporting from the field.
  • Shoot and edit videos in-studio and in the field with proficient lighting and sound skills.
  • Ensure that all WSJ journalistic and legal standards are followed by working with the leadership of the video team.
  • Collaborate with reporters and editors across the WSJ newsroom to produce videos.
  • Complete additional duties as assigned, including breaking news assignments.

You have:

  • At least 10 years of experience producing video at a national or global media company.
  • Extensive experience reporting in the field for video.
  • Experience managing producers and DPs in order to execute a project.
  • Prior experience with every aspect of video production from start to finish, under tight deadlines.
  • Deep understanding and interest in The Journal’s core coverage areas.
  • Experience using multiple camera setups, specifically with Sony professional and prosumer equipment. Ability to set up lights in the studio and in the field.
  • A professional-level understanding of the Adobe Creative Suite, with a high level of expertise in Premiere, After Effects, Photoshop and Illustrator.
  • Clear communication skills with exceptional written and collaboration skills.
  • Exceptional organizational and time-management skills.
