The Times-Picayune is seeking an experienced business reporter to cover the next economy in New Orleans. In recent years, the city known for trade and tourism notched the first sale of a $1 billion tech startup and is becoming a key Gulf Coast wind energy hub. There are hopes that a major port expansion and other infrastructure will bring jobs in logistics and supply chains, and civic leaders are helping foster a culture of entrepreneurship in the creative economy.
This beat is about capturing the immense promise of our city and state while forthrightly addressing the ever-present problems that have allowed other Southern cities to outpace New Orleans over the decades. A successful reporter will find stories about new ideas for moving the Crescent City forward and the people who are pursuing them — whether that’s in small businesses, startup accelerators, universities, government or the local corporate sector. They also won’t shy from sharp-minded enterprise and watchdog reporting.
The Times-Picayune, five-time winner of the Pulitzer Prize, is a growing metro newspaper and website with sister news outlets that span the state of Louisiana.
