Reuters is looking for an ambitious and creative journalist with strong news judgment and a passion for storytelling to lead our reporters in Switzerland and Austria.
In this job, you would lead a team of reporters based in Geneva, Zurich and Vienna, reporting in English and German to cover top stories and generate exclusives, ahead-of-the curve analyses and smart multimedia pieces for financial clients, media and dotcom readers. The region’s file is varied, ranging from the United Nations and the World Health Organisation to Swiss banks and pharma companies to the Vienna-based International Atomic Energy Agency.
As Chief Correspondent, you would also build your own source base in the region, develop and pitch story ideas and have an ability to frame stories from the region for an international audience. You would work closely with news editors, the region’s Breaking News Hub and visuals to hit the top stories hard, and would hire, develop and retain the best and most diverse talent for the team.
As our Chief Correspondent for Switzerland & Austria, you will:
- Ensuring a steady stream of story pitches to enrich the file out of Switzerland and Austria
- Working with correspondents to develop and execute story ideas
- Building and deepening a source base in Switzerland to generate scoops and exclusives
- Managing a team of reporters
- Writing and editing spot copy and trunks and helping to cover breaking news
- Liaising with visuals teams to ensure stories are multimedia
- Playing a key role in winning top timings by communicating quickly and clearly
To be Chief Correspondent, Switzerland and Austria, you will likely have:
- An understanding of how economies work
- Fluent English and strong German and/or French
- Strong writing and editing skills as well as news judgment
- An ability to work as part of a team across languages and media
- The ability to work under pressure
