Insider is looking for an editor to lead our fast-paced coverage of the US and global economy.
Our editor will help oversee a team that tackles economic data, the labor market/unemployment, inequality, taxes, monetary/fiscal policy, and hot-button policy topics including stimulus, student debt, and the child-tax credit.
Much of the team’s work will revolve around the intersection of economic analysis and human interest. Readers will be able to know what’s going on in the economy everywhere from Capitol Hill to their local state capital, and how it impacts them. The editor will spend their time doing the following: brainstorming ideas, assigning stories, reviewing copy, and implementing optimal distribution practices.
An ideal candidate will be able to do the following:
- Follow the economy-related news flow, with a specific focus on how developments impact everyday life
- Monitor and dissect for readers the daily policy developments in Washington DC and on Capitol Hill, and how they’ll eventually impact Main Street
- Tell the stories of both workers and business owners, and how economic conditions are impacting their lives and ability to do their jobs.
- Tie together multiple themes into strong, insightful narratives
- Play up the human angle to economy stories — who is impacted, and what’s next for them?
- Continuously develop the skill sets of reporters
- Work quickly and efficiently to help publish a daily array of stories including news hits and features/analysis.
- Identify and branch out into new areas of economic coverage
