Insider is hiring full-time visual features reporters to tell captivating visual stories about the airline industry.

A day in this role could consist of anything from going to a nearby airport to take photos of a new private jet, interviewing airline executives and experts on new announcements and developments, or sharing travel hacks only a seasoned traveler would know. This role is designed for someone who loves to travel, as much of it will involve pitching and taking trips to places across the US and the world and writing up reviews of the flights taken to get there.

The visual features reporter would pitch, shoot, and write their own stories on these topics. They would be equally adept at sourcing photos from online outlets and going out to shoot their own. Prior photography experience is not required, but you must be willing to learn.

Knowledge of the aviation industry is a must for this role. The ideal candidate will be obsessed with airlines, planes, and travel, and be excited to share that passion with readers. Success in this role will be measured by successfully aligning what you and the readers are interested in.

You’ll be writing stories like these:

  • A businessman is selling his brand-new Bombardier Global 7500 for $70 million, the only one on the market. Take a look inside the 3-month-old jet.
  • I flew on Delta’s newest jet, the controversial Airbus A220-300, and it’s my new favorite airliner in the US
  • Emirates just unveiled the swanky high-end design for its new Airbus A380 as most airlines say goodbye to the enormous plane — see inside
  • I went inside the secret airplane compartment where flight attendants sleep on long-haul flights and was shocked by its size
  • Airlines are back to overselling flights, and one traveler walked away with a $4,500 voucher after a Delta flight to Iceland was oversold by 30 people

We’re looking for someone with:

  • Excellent writing skills
  • A passion for telling visual stories
  • Interest in reporting on a variety of aviation topics
  • Experience taking and editing original photos
  • The ability to work at a fast pace as part of a team
  • Copyediting skills and light HTML experience are a plus.

This is a full-time position based in our New York office with the option to work remotely. Insider Inc. offers competitive compensation and full benefits packages.
