Insider’s finance desk is seeking a full-time reporter to write about the biggest and most important hedge funds in the US.
We’re looking for a smart, resourceful, and aggressive reporter who can get scoops, spot industry trends early on, identify the people and themes that are the talk of the $4 trillion hedge fund industry, and write with skill and insight.
Examples of the kinds of stories we would want this reporter to do include:
- How ExodusPoint — the biggest hedge fund launch in history — continues to amass billions despite lackluster returns
- Meet Jim Mooney, the most powerful man you never heard of at $31 billion Baupost and heir apparent to the value-investing titan Seth Klarman
- How a former Goldman Sachs whiz kid living in Puerto Rico exploited a generational shift in investing to become one of Millennium’s most profitable traders
- Millennium just snagged a top volatility trader from Barclays to run a new team
- Billions lost, pissed investors, and uncharacteristic tweets: a look at a horrible month for growth hedge funds
The ideal candidate is a flexible and creative reporter with robust sources or have a track record of cultivating new ones. They’re comfortable with a range of story types and eager to learn what kinds of stories work behind a paywall. They’re able to see the big picture and explain complex topics in a conversational way to smart, but busy readers. They enjoy collaborating with colleagues on their own and other teams.
We’re seeking a candidate with:
- Strong experience in business reporting
- A track record of breaking news and a portfolio of features
- The highest journalistic ethics
- Sound news judgment
- A willingness to learn and adjust as beats and reader demands evolve
- Comfortable with finance, investing, and business topics.
- A love of Insider and what we do
- A desire to work as part of a global team in a fast-paced environment
- Has a knack for explaining complex or technical topics in a fun, conversational way
- Has strong attention to detail, be capable of delivering top-notch copy, and able to meet deadlines
The reporter can be based anywhere in the US.
- Salary: $70,000 – $115,000
- (dependent on skills, experience, and competencies)
