Headquartered in New York City, Guardian US is an entirely digital operation that seeks to engage US readers by combining the Guardian’s international coverage with US voices and expertise. Core coverage areas include the climate emergency, economic and racial inequality, digital privacy and much more. Guardian US launched in 2011 and today has bureaus in New York, Washington DC, New Orleans and Los Angeles. The Guardian is an independently owned, mission-driven organization, funded by readers around the globe.

It’s the talent, energy and commitment our people bring to The Guardian that make us who we are. Across our business we have some of the most creative thinkers in media and beyond: award winning journalists, cutting edge commercial teams, digital talent and more.

We are hiring a senior sports business correspondent to boost our coverage of sports business, power and politics across the world. The focus includes the sports ownership, sponsorship and broadcasting rights, regulatory and governance issues and the intersection of sport and politics, the men’s football World Cup 2026, and the LA 2028 Olympics and Paralympics. The ideal candidate will have excellent contacts across the world of sport, from agents and managers to private equity bosses and media executives.

This role is likely to be based in New York but could be elsewhere if there are specific reasons for an exceptional candidate. This role will play a key role in expanding our sports coverage and underlining our authority in this critical news area. This hire is part of a significant expansion of the Guardian’s coverage of soccer in and for the US.
