Join us, and you’ll plumb the byzantine depths of the U.S. health care insurance industry. We write about some of its biggest companies, such as UnitedHealth, Humana, Cigna and Kaiser. We want to know about their acquisitions, strategies, layoffs … and we want to go deeper, much deeper, than routine news releases.
This job (official title: associate editor) is for an experienced reporter who has experience covering health insurance or healthcare. You should have sources that help you break news and stay out in front of industry trends. You should be adept with quick-turnaround scoops and analytical trend pieces. You will occasionally fill in for the managing editor.
On a small team, you will have plenty of opportunity for career growth and taking on more responsibilities.
Some of your responsibilities:
- Report and write about four articles per week and create video content based on interviews
- Show your expertise on the subject matter by writing with clarity, insight and depth
- Establish and maintain close relationships with insurance executives and their companies
- Serve as back-up to the managing editor, and help to generate story ideas and shape coverage
- Travel to industry events and meet with prospects to stay on top of the latest industry trends
Attributes/Qualifications
Our dream candidate will be driven to succeed and have a proven record of reporting high-quality content with a focus on breaking news and bringing content to subscribers before competitors do. We seek a person with strong intelligence, high energy, creativity, persistence and resilience.
We’d also love for you to have at least five years of business reporting experience, including experience working on a daily or wire publication. Some editing experience is preferred.
Further Information
This position pays in the range of $99k -100k, depending on experience, but this band could be reviewed based on someone’s expertise. The range estimate is for our NYC office.
