Front Office Sports is seeking a dynamic reporter to lead our coverage of the business of women’s sports.
This is a new beat-specific role at an exciting time in the company’s life cycle as we continue the transition into a multi-platform, IP-led media company that delivers content directly to our audience across all of the major social and digital platforms, as well as our owned and operated channels.
We are looking for a true-beat reporter who is hungry to own the topic, grow their personal brand while doing great work for FOS, and is able and willing to write as well as appear on camera and conduct interviews at live events. The ideal candidate already knows how to sniff out original stories and breaking news, build sources, and balance writing short-breaking daily news while also reporting out longer-term enterprise stories.
This role requires someone who understands the workload and focus that comes with working at a dynamic and fast-paced media company.
This role will report to the Editorial Director of News.

Key Responsibilities

  • Closely and expertly cover the business of women’s sports, in particular investment, attendance, viewership, and other growth metrics of pro and collegiate women’s leagues
  • Balance daily news demands with working on longer-term enterprise stories
  • Attend the 8:30 a.m. ET news huddle to discuss story ideation and lineups and to be aware of what the others on the Newsdesk are watching and covering
  • Deliver clean, clear copy while rigorously adhering to a daily deadline
  • Participate in multimedia storytelling, including on-camera opportunities at FOS
  • Understand that reporting is not a 9–5, M-F job, and working hours may vary depending on time of year and major sports events
  • Book guests and conduct onstage interviews at FOS live events
  • Help FOS build out its content franchise around the business of women’s sports
  • Share your work on social media (in particular X, LinkedIn) to promote your FOS work and your own brand
  • Own your beat. That means:
    • Jumping on news when news breaks and you can advance the story / add insight / prove a unique angle rather than straight aggregating
    • Story generation: Your daily output will be driven by your ability to identify and pitch multiple stories on a daily basis
    • Profiling interesting and influential industry figures, from new players to key members of the establishment
    • Actively using social media to be a leading voice on the beat, including on weekends and off-hours
    • Staying tuned in to your beat, including nights and weekends when the news cycle requires
    • Cultivating sources all the time through calls and coffee meetings
    • Traveling to games or events or gatherings in your beat

Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

  • 7+ years of experience covering this beat
  • Experience and comfort on camera
  • A self-starter capable of taking initiative and finding your own stories
  • Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
  • Excellent verbal communication and writing skills
  • Handles pressure effectively and exhibits a flexible, positive, can-do attitude
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to multitask
  • Ability to anticipate coverage needs and execute quickly
