Dow Jones Newswires seeks a reporter to cover the U.S. economy, including the Federal Reserve, economic indicators such as nonfarm payrolls, the consumer price index, gross domestic product, retail sales and home prices, as well as market and investor reaction to economic news.
In this crucial beat, the reporter will cover breaking news in real time, serving Dow Jones Newswires’ global professional readership. The role comes as the U.S. battles inflation and consumers are trying to make their dollars go further, at a time when rates remain at historically high levels during an election year. In such an environment, every economic indicator is a chance for our professional subscribers to make time-sensitive calls.
Based in New York City, the reporter will work closely with Newswires editors and coordinate closely with colleagues at the Wall Street Journal to ensure breaking news is covered quickly and accurately. The successful candidate will work with editors at Newswires and WSJ specifically to reduce latency, increase volume and improve readability of our coverage of U.S. interest rate action and economic data releases.
Excellent news judgment and a close eye for detail are essential. Successful candidates must be able to thrive in a fast-paced environment where teamwork and communication skills will be hugely important.
The reporter would also be expected to write analysis pieces that thread the needle on economic policy decisions that impact professional customers and investors. Many of these decisions have long-reaching implications for months or years to come.
