Barron’s seeks an assistant commentary editor

Barron’s is looking for an early-career editor to support our lead commentary editor and help the newsroom’s renowned commentary reach new heights. In this role, there will be opportunities to write and conduct primary edits on commentary. You will have regular contact with newsmakers and public figures and will be able to work broadly on issues across the economy.

The role is based out of our New York City office.

You Will:

  • Research and help recruit potential guest writers;
  • Manage communication and copy flow between the newsroom and outside writers;
  • Fact check drafts and help ensure they meet editorial standards;
  • Oversee article production, including working with the photo team, setting up articles into the Barron’s CMS, and optimizing headlines and SEO.

You Have:

  • 1-3 years experience as an editor, reporter, or similar role.
  • Solid news judgment and a keen interest and awareness of business, finance, policy and geopolitical news.
  • Strong editing, writing and rewriting skills.

Chris Roush was the dean of the School of Communications at Quinnipiac University in Hamden, Connecticut. He was previously Walter E. Hussman Sr. Distinguished Professor in business journalism at UNC-Chapel Hill. He is a former business journalist for Bloomberg News, Businessweek, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, The Tampa Tribune and the Sarasota Herald-Tribune. He is the author of the leading business reporting textbook "Show me the Money: Writing Business and Economics Stories for Mass Communication" and "Thinking Things Over," a biography of former Wall Street Journal editor Vermont Royster.
