Axios seeks a health care deals reporter

Axios Pro Deals is the subscription service within Axios, a thriving, fast-growing media organization dedicated to providing trustworthy, award-winning news in an audience-first format. We’re hiring a healthcare deals reporter to cover this essential sector of the deals market with a focus on the public markets, private equity and M&A.

Why it Matters: Axios Pro Deals operates as a team of 14 journalists focused on delivering the dealmaking community news that is essential to their jobs. We are looking for a highly talented, collaborative, experienced reporter to join this team and break news for our highly engaged, loyal audience.

  • You should be obsessed with beating the competition and scooping deals across the biotech sector. You should also be well sourced inside the banks, venture capital and private equity firms, and be a sector expert that can explain why your reporting matters to Axios readers.
  • We will boost your profile on the beat through our unique audience, as well as through appearances in our national newsletters and as an expert on tv, radio, podcasts and social media.

  • Expertise for driving the conversation with scoops and trend stories
  • Experience on stage at conferences getting sources to break news in a live setting
  • Comfortable on tv, radio and podcasts as an expert guest
  • Ability to collaborate closely and effectively with internal and external audiences
  • Positive attitude and ability to thrive in high-pressure news environment

Starting salary for this role is in the range of $90,000 – $102,000 and is dependent on numerous factors, including but not limited to location, work experience, and skills. This range does not include other compensation and benefits. Axios’ compensation philosophy takes into account cost of labor differentials across the country. Because this is a remote-optional job posting, this salary range takes into account all possible locations within the United States, but candidates will only be eligible for the salary range for their location.

Chris Roush was the dean of the School of Communications at Quinnipiac University in Hamden, Connecticut. He was previously Walter E. Hussman Sr. Distinguished Professor in business journalism at UNC-Chapel Hill. He is a former business journalist for Bloomberg News, Businessweek, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution, The Tampa Tribune and the Sarasota Herald-Tribune. He is the author of the leading business reporting textbook "Show me the Money: Writing Business and Economics Stories for Mass Communication" and "Thinking Things Over," a biography of former Wall Street Journal editor Vermont Royster.
