Bloomberg seeks an AI and VC editor in San Fran

Bloomberg News is one of the world’s biggest and most influential news organizations. Our Global Technology team closely covers the companies, investors and entrepreneurs that are changing the world. We’re seeking a talented, dedicated and creative editor to join our award-winning team in San Francisco to work with reporters covering technology, with a focus on the artificial intelligence, venture capital and startups beat.

This role will include helping conceive and carrying out stories on technology topics including (but not limited to) funding and innovation in artificial intelligence, data centers, semiconductors, consumer apps and enterprise tools. We’re looking for someone eager to work on breaking news and edit in-depth features on this dynamic and influential beat, balancing frequent fast-paced scoops and analysis with deeper, longer-term stories and projects. This role is for a collaborative, well-rounded editor who knows how to make an impact and help our coverage stand out on one of the fastest-moving, most competitive beats in business journalism.

Who we’re looking for:

You’re a fast, agile editor who is fluent in technology-industry subject matter and terminology and has a working knowledge of the artificial intelligence and venture capital landscapes, Silicon Valley’s biggest personalities, and the most important emerging startups. You have the ability to break through the hype and jargon that is endemic to this beat, guiding reporters to tell readers what’s really happening in straightforward and clear language. Speed, clarity and accuracy are a must. You’re confident and experienced enough to work with some of the newsroom’s most skilled reporters to write about the news and its impact, and flexible enough to quickly understand new ideas. You seek to bring new technological, investing and startup trends to light and to inspire conversation through stories from across the beat. This role will be based in our San Francisco office.

We’ll trust you to:

* Quickly shape accurate, fair, detailed and captivating coverage, under sometimes tight deadlines

* Work closely with reporters to bring the best out of their notebooks

* Think beyond simple copy changes to tell powerful narratives that encompass print, visuals, audio and video

* Possess an intuitive understanding of our audience across formats and platforms

* Collaborate with reporters and editors on the Global Technology team and others across teams and regions

* Be committed to the best journalistic practices, sound judgment and a willingness to learn

You’ll need to have:

* At least 5 years in a real-time financial journalism newsroom

* Deep knowledge of and curiosity about the artificial intelligence, technology startup and VC universe

* Technology journalism experience preferred

* Strong work ethic, attention to detail, ability to work steadily and calmly under pressure
